Aase Faret Lofgren was born September 16, 1919.  She was one of eight children and grew up on a farm just outside Larvik, Norway.  As a young woman she enjoyed hiking along Norway’s picturesque hiking trails and cross country skiing in the winter.  During World War II she enrolled in nurse’s training at Tønsberg Hospital and was certified as a Red Cross Nurse in October, 1947.  In 1952, she emigrated to Seattle to join her sister Esther, and was soon hired as an RN at Swedish Hospital where she was a surgical nurse.

In 1960, she married a Swedish-American, Theodore A. Lofgren, and settled in West Seattle.  As a couple, they enjoyed gardening, travelled frequently and were active in the Swedish Club, West Seattle Kiwanis, and were supporters of the Nordic Heritage Museum.  The Heritage Museum has been the recipient of many Scandinavian antiques from their collection.   Aase enjoyed needlework and was a member of a sewing club of Norwegian nurses.  She was a gracious hostess and an accomplished baker of many Scandinavian delicacies.

Aase was an optimistic, independent woman and remained in her West Seattle home until the age of 94, being assisted by devoted friends and neighbors.   The last three years of her life were spent at the Kenney Home where she was lovingly cared for and befriended by many.  She was a faithful Christian and was ready to join her savior when she passed away peacefully on October 23, 2017.

Aase is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Lofgren, her stepchildren Robert Lofgren of Port Orchard and LaVerne Waldock of Calgary, Alberta, and all her siblings in Norway.  She is survived by nieces and nephews in Norway and Oregon.

Aase’s memorial service will be held at the Kenney Home, 7125 Fauntleroy Way SW on Saturday, November 11th at 2:00 pm.
