Helen Marcia Teasley

January 18, 1930 to July 24, 2016

Lovingly devoted to all of us, Helen Marcia Teasley passed away peacefully in Burien on July 24, 2016. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bill W. Teasley and her 3 children, Marcia Peterson, Steve Teasley (Sue), and Lisa Bouslaugh (Ron), as well as grandchildren, Shelley Gallion Peterson, Jody Doran (Chris), Trevor Teasley, Kyle Montgomery, Katie Spangler (Zach), Brittany Bakke, and Jared Montgomery, as well as 2 great grandchildren, Andrew Doran, and Emma Spangler, and her brother, Dwight (Helen), and many other relatives.

Helen was preceded in death by 4 siblings, June, Bud, Maxine, and Howard.

Born on January 18, 1930 to Ethel Walkinton Stevens and Dwight N. Stevens in Seattle, Helen grew up on Alki Beach enjoying the sun and saltwater, as well as Spud's Fish n Chips. She often said she was there the day it opened for business. Helen graduated from West Seattle High School in 1948. Years later, she would enjoy attending her class reunions.

In 1948, Helen met the love of her life, Bill W. Teasley, who at the time was in the Navy, stationed at Whidbey Island Naval Base. Bill was born and raised in Dalton Georgia. They were married in 1949, on her birthday, They lived in Anacortes, later moving to Seattle. They raised 3 children, Marcia, Steve, and Lisa.

Helen was such a people lover! It was that big, beautiful smile, and those kind, compassionate words she spoke to others as she greeted them. It would leave an indelible mark. She never knew a stranger. She touched many lives.

As best described by one of her nephews, Larry Stevens, " I always remember your Mom as gentle, always sweetly smiling. An encouraging Auntie,

who invariably had something pleasant to say wherever she was. Her sweetness, and thoughtfulness is manifest in all three of her children- a wonderful legacy she has passed forward. I join you in celebrating her pleasant spirit, loving ways, and peaceful passing."

When daughter, Lisa was in early grade school, Helen volunteered as a playground supervisor. This quickly led to her accepting work as a teacher's

aide. She worked over 20 years for the Highline School District. She loved helping children learn to read, and the children loved her. This work gave her great satisfaction. Years later, she would often see former students who would thank her for helping them in school. She made a difference, and impacted many lives for the good.

Helen always saw to it that the family would make many trips to Bill's family home in Dalton, Georgia. This would happen usually every other year. They got to travel by train, car, and airplane. It was always a thrill to arrive at Grandma Katherine, and Grandpa Eugene's home, as they would be greeted with open arms by their Georgia family! The kids agree, that these trips planned by Helen were tops among the highlights of their childhood.

Helen loved camping trips, and vacations to Hawaii. When Helen and Bill retired at the same time, they began traveling each winter to Quartzsite, Arizona.

They were fortunate to spend 20 winters in Arizona. Helen got to travel to London, England with Marcia to see Buckingham Palace, and Kensington

Palace, as well as other sites. On one of her last trips, Helen flew to North Carolina with Marcia and Anthony to meet her first great grandchild, Andrew. They also traveled to Dalton to reunite with the Georgia family.

Helen loved God, and sent the kids to Sunday school, as well as vacation Bible School.

She enjoyed her husband's music, as he sang, and played the guitar, attending jams in Renton, Tukwila, Quartzsite, and many other locations.

They were members of the Old Time Fiddler's club.

Helen collected old postcards, stamps, dolls, and jewelry. She cherished photographs and greeting cards.

Most of all, Helen loved celebrating their wedding anniversaries, the family gatherings, birthdays, and weddings. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She looked forward to her grandchild, Brittany's and Troy's baby due in September. She so loved her family!

The family misses Helen dearly, but knows her love for them, and her joyful spirit dwells in each of their hearts. They look forward to seeing her again in Heaven.

In close, the family thanks Kline Galland Hospice, Better Living Adult Family Homes, Senior Care Services of Washington, and Emmick Family Funeral Services for their fine care of Helen.

A Celebration of Life for Helen will be held at the Burien Community Center, located at 14700 6th Ave SW Burien, Washington on Saturday, October 15th 2016 from 2:30 to 5:00pm.
