Linda Mae Maples

Linda Mae Maples – October 1950 – September 29, 2017

Born Melinda Thurman in October of 1950, Linda was raised in the Rainier Valley of Seattle by her Grandparents Wendelin and Blanche Welder, attended Federal Way High School, and graduated with the Franklin High School class of 1968. Linda married Nicholas Farafontoff in 1969 and they had a daughter Michelle in 1970. Nicholas died in a tragic SCUBA diving accident two week after Michelle was born, leaving Linda to raise Michelle as a single Mom.

A popular Hair Stylist in the Seattle area for many years, Linda worked at the London House in Burien, for Vidal Sassoon doing Hair shows around the country, and with her BFF Helen Nielsen at the Cobblestone Salon on Market Street in Ballard. Her years in the fishing community of Ballard also led to stints as a deck hand and cook on Crab Boats such as the Big Valley in Alaska.

Linda was married to John Maples from 1973 to 1977. She started her own company “Northwest Best Foods” in the 1990’s where she sold her homemade salsa and pickles to bars and restaurants on the Kitsap Peninsula.

Linda spent her later years gardening and caring for her many pets in Des Moines Washington, where she died at home on September 29th 2017 after a period of declining health. She was preceded in death by her husband Nicholas, dogs Home Boy, Macy, and Homer; cats Bellie and Hunter, Conure Peaches, turtle Charlie, and Maggie the Raccoon. She is survived by her partner of many years Erik Jacobs, daughter Michelle Farafontoff, grandson Chad Farafontoff, Great-Granddaughter Aliana Farafontoff, mother Dorlene Welder, sister Delores Neff, and brothers Lloyd Thurman, Herb Neff, and Weldon Syverson.

Services will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, October 6th at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery, 205 Northeast 205th Street, Shoreline, WA 98155
