John Swan Obituary

John Kenneth Swan, known to some as Legs, passed away peacefully at his home October 11, 2023, in Tukwila, Washington. John was seventy-two

Born in Seattle, Washington on November 27, 1950, John’s was a quiet life on the river. His lifelong friend Bill Toon was John's most frequent contact and closest confidant in the Duwamish River Valley. John was devoted to his friends and loved ones and when not in their company, home was where he could be found.

John leaves behind a brother Tom (Pyper) and nephew Gann Swan of Jenks, Oklahoma; a sister Susan (Matt Hobbs) of NE Washington, a nephew Frank (Kelcy) Hankins and grand-niece Ellie of Tacoma, and a niece Emily (Kale) Alexander and grand-nephew Alex of Snohomish.

John's family and friends will remember him as a thoughtful and kind individual, always ready to share a tale, then maybe another, but just as willing to lend an ear or helping hand; always with a smile.

John briefly attended the University of Washington, but while still working was a self-taught CNC router operator for manufacturers that included Warmoth Guitars. His colleagues will remember his cleverness in solving problems, programming CNCs in record time and enhancing productivity.

Outside of work, John was a man of many interests. He enjoyed learning about history and was episodically an avid reader, immersing himself in a wide array of genres and authors. His artistic side was evident in his love of small project woodworking. And before his hands were reshaped by arthritis, he enjoyed keyboard and guitar. A journal of introspective poetry was a wonderful find in his home, the rawness expressed both stark and moving.

John's love for music extended to singing karaoke. Known by many friends as "Legs" due to his 6'5" height, one of the often requested Karaoke tunes was "Day-O" or Banana Boat made famous by Harry Belafonte first; then by Legs. These performances brought joy and laughter to many, and his friends will fondly remember his spirited renditions.

John Kenneth Swan will be deeply missed. His life was a testament to the power of humility, kindness and generosity.
