Kerry Lorraine Smith

On Sunday June 6, 2021, Kerry Smith, loving mother of two, passed away at the age of 80.

Kerry was born on October 31, 1940 in Seattle, WA to parents Mac and Kay. She went to school and began her career in Portland, OR. She eventually found her way back to Seattle where she had her two children, Renee and Jeff, from her first marriage. On St. Patrick’s day in 1983 she married the love of her life, Doug Smith, and welcomed his two children, Melissa and Gardner, into her family.

Kerry and Doug went into full-time ministry in 1988, and for nearly two decades they worked together to set countless people free. She had a kind and understanding persona but also had no hesitation to tell it like it is resulting in the lovingly used name of, “The Velvet Hammer.” Kerry found a home and second family at Horizon Church where she served in several roles, including associate pastor for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Doug. She will be lovingly remembered by her sister Aileen, daughter Renee, son Jeff, nephews Eric and Duane, recently located half-sister, JoDana, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

A celebration of life is scheduled for this Saturday, June 12th at 9:00am. It will be held at Horizon Church 602 Valley Street Seattle, WA 98109. For those unable to attend, the church will be live streaming the event. Go to horizonchurch.org and select the media tab.
