Lyle Stevenson Obituary

Lyle R. Stevenson
May 25, 1940 - Nov. 16, 2023
Seattle, WA

Lyle Richard Stevenson passed away early in the morning on November 16th, 2023. Lyle is survived by his wife Lillian Frances Stevenson, their four children, Thomas Robert Stevenson, Michael David Stevenson, Paul William Stevenson and Anne Marie Stevenson, and their six grandchildren, Leah, Kayden, Olyvia, Juniper, Brighton and Meadow.

Lyle was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend to all who knew him and will be missed dearly.

Lyle Richard Stevenson was born at Van Duzee Hospital in Gouvernour, St. Lawrence County, New York to the proud parents of Roy Kenneth Stevenson and Dorothy Madeline (Harris) Stevenson on May 25th, 1940. Lyle grew up in Antwerp, New York with his parents and younger sister, Mary Diane (Stevenson) Haas on a dairy farm that his parents owned.

Lyle graduated from Indian River Central High School and then went on to study at the Indiana Institute of Technology before joining the United States Navy when he was 21.

Lyle served on the USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War and Cuban Missile Crisis as a Missile Firing Technician MFT2. After serving 4 years aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, Lyle was honorably discharged with recommendations of re-enlistment.

Lyle fell in love with the Pacific Northwest while on tour and decided it was time to focus on his education, where he went on to get his Associates of Science in Engineering from Bremerton's Olympic College in 1966.

Lyle married his wife Lillian Frances (White) Stevenson at the Star of the Sea Parish in Bremerton Washington on March 24th, 1973, and went on to have four children, Thomas, Michael, Paul and Anne.

Lyle went on to get his Associates in Technical Art in Construction Management from Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood Washington in 1985, he continued his pursuit in his education and went on to receiving his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Central Washington University, Lynnwood Washington in 1991 as well as his Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington, Evans School of Public Administration in 1995.

Lyle spent the majority of his professional career as an Associate City Engineering Specialist for the City of Seattle Public Utilities. He was very passionate about his career and after he retired from the Seattle Water Department as a Civil Engineer, he went on to pursue a Doctorate in Urban Development from Portland University with the interest of bringing light rail to Seattle.

Complications with his health and the onset of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's ultimately made it too difficult to continue his education, he then devoted his time to volunteering as a Lector for St. John's Parish, an advocate for veterans through the Veterans Association Hospital in Seattle and The American Legion Post 40.

Lyle had the honor of serving as The American Legion Post 40 Commander, 1st District Commander, State Boy Scout Chairman, and Post 40 Adjutant. Due to his compassion and dedication, Lyle was honored by The American Legion Post 40 by being made the first ever Honorary Lifetime Member.
