Patricia Braverman Obituary

Patricia (Pat, Patrice) Braverman (nee Lewis) led a life informed by her unique perspective as an artist and designer, her love of family, and her appreciation for all that life had brought her.

She passed away on April 19, 2021. While this was not unexpected – at 87 she had been in hospice for nearly three years – complications from MS and COPD finally caught up with her. She died peacefully in her sleep.

Pat grew up in the Bronx, New York, and attended Syracuse University, where she met her future husband and the father of her two daughters. After 10 years, they moved from Riverdale, NY, to Washington DC and a house in the suburbs. But her artistic spirit drove her to earn an MFA in painting in her 30’s, and after becoming divorced, she worked as a photographer and graphic designer.

She moved to Boulder, Colorado with a long-time partner. Pat loved Boulder, made many friends there, and stayed for over 40 years. She became an antiques dealer and traveled the US in her beloved Toyota Previa buying and selling unusual and unique items.

She was an introvert yet had a dry sense of humor, often at her own expense, and a generous spirit that drew people to her. She was a self-professed curmudgeon and an unapologetic smoker for most of her life. Growing up, “Patsy” was part of a close-knit group of cousins and absolutely adored her much younger sister, Susan, who died in 2013.

Pat loved chamber music and Mozart but was also a fan of Paul Simon; her favorite painter was Matisse, especially his cutouts. She read biographies and memoirs, Oliver Sachs being a particular favorite; tore through crossword puzzles; and read the New York Times and the New Yorker magazine for most of her life. In 2006, she moved to West Seattle to be near family.

Pat will be greatly missed by her daughters Cary Sparks and Alice Braverman (Patrick Kafer); grandchildren Bryn and Finnley; niece and nephew Reva and Andrew; cousins Arthur, Bo, Margy and Dick; and their families.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patricia's name to either the National MS Society or to Navos www.navos.org/donate
