Richard Hutchison Obituary

Much to his surprise, Richard Lloyd Hutchison died unexpectedly on Monday, October 5th, at the age of 90. The night before his death, he said his main wish was to live long enough to celebrate his 69th wedding anniversary on Monday, November 23, 2020 with his beloved bride. On this day, we raise a toast to our parents for sharing a love that continues to be an inspiration for us all. Through Georgia's years of dementia, he was always by her side, hand in hand. Theirs is indeed a love story for the ages.

Richard was born in Lewiston, Idaho to parents Gertrude Bowen and Frederick Hutchison. He attended Seattle schools, graduating from West Seattle High School in 1948. During his 4 years of service to his country in the US Navy, Richard married his high school sweetheart, Georgia Mae Baskett, in 1951. He studied accounting at the UW, but his desire to work in public service sent him in a different direction.

Richard, aka "Hutch", joined the Seattle Police Department in 1960. During his 25-year career, he spent several years visiting all Seattle Public Schools and neighborhood Parks and Recreation as 'Officer Friendly'. He was considered a father figure by many, often called upon for his wise counsel. His life was based on a foundation of honesty and strong faith that carried over into all aspects of his life.

After building their forever home, Dick and Georgia spent their retirement traveling the world. A favorite spot was their winter home, Golden Village, in Hemet, CA. Memories shared by their fellow snowbirds and dearest of friends are many. "He was a true gentleman, and we loved him for his kindness, his sense of humor, and for his willingness to lend a hand to anyone who needed it."

Richard was indeed a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His family delighted in his sense of humor. He had a daily routine of checking the obituaries to see if his name was listed. "Well dad, on this your 69th wedding anniversary you have made the list. We know you continue to watch over us from heaven."

Richard is survived by his wife Georgia; daughter Valerie Stiles Thoma, grands-Jesse, Jordan (Amanda), Kelly (Garett); son Brian Hutchison (Halle), grands- Lacey, Carly; daughter Diann Rundberg (John), grands- Ryan, Sarah, Micah; daughter Karen Hutchison; daughter Kathy Moury (Brett), grands- Taylor, Tatum, Trent, Tanner; 5 great grandchildren; brother Art Servidio (Isha); sisters Rosanne Servidio, Karen Liquori (Chuck); and many nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; Diann's son Tyler; Valerie's stepdaughter Rory; stepmom Jean Hutchison; brothers Fred, Gary, Bob Hutchison; and stepsister Joan Chriest.

Richard's service will be postponed until 2021.
