Susan Hinton Obituary

Susan Elice Hinton passed away on June 16, 2020, at the age of 62. She passed peacefully in the presence of children, grandchildren, and her loving husband after a 3-year battle with appendiceal cancer. She is survived by Joseph Hinton, her husband of 42 years, and her sons, Geoffrey and Daniel Hinton. Susan was born on March 18, 1958, in the city of White Rock, British Columbia. Her parents were John Sharp and Dorothy Wills. She and her family moved to the United States shortly after she was born. Susan was granted citizenship at the age of eight. As a teenager, she spent summers working as a deckhand on her father’s charter boat, the El Cortez, in Westport. After graduating from Ocosta High School, she went on to receive a degree in Educational Studies from The University of Puget Sound.

Susan and Joseph were married in the autumn of 1977. The family moved to Clallam Bay, in 1985. In 1988, Susan became the Kindergarten teacher at Clallam Bay High and Elementary School, teaching kids in their first year of school for eight years. She achieved her Master’s degree in Education Leadership and later became principal. In 1998, she moved to Grand Coulee, to work as the principal of A.E. Wright Elementary. In 2013, she moved back to Clallam Bay and later worked for the non-profit Concerned Citizens, supporting children with disabilities and their families.

Susan often enjoyed cross-stitch, crocheting outfits for her grandkids, and researching family history. She also maintained an impressive collection of shoes. We remember Susan for her love and devotion to her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was also passionate about child education and working with special-needs kids. Services were conducted in private with immediate family.
