Phyllis Emmick Obituary

Beloved Wife, Mother, Sister,
Grandmother, Great-Grandmother,
Aunt, Cousin, & Dearest Friend

Phyllis Jean (Roush) Emmick was born in Atwater, Minnesota on March 26, 1930 to Floyd Laverne & Edith Clara (O’Hair) Roush. She was the first born and only girl of Floyd & Edith's four children. Phyllis was a caring Daughter and wonderful Big Sister, and they all loved each other dearly. During WWII, the family sold the farm in Minnesota and moved to Prosser, Washington, where Floyd's Father worked and he was promised good, steady pay at the local Hanford Nuclear Plant. Some of Phyllis’ fondest memories took place in Prosser, and she'd joyfully share her fond memories well into her later years.

After only a few years in Prosser, the Roushes moved to Burien, Washington. The Family's move from Prosser was bittersweet for her, because shortly thereafter, she met a handsome young sailor through her Uncle Chet named, Franklin Robert “Bud” Emmick, who served with him on the USS Pennsylvania in 1945. It was love at first sight. After a couple of years of courtship, many love letters, hoping, wishing, and praying, Phyllis married her “Frankie” at her parents’ home in Burien on March 1, 1947. Their first son, Gary Lynn Emmick, was born in 1948. Their second son, Craig Alan Emmick, was born in 1953.

When their boys were all grown up, Phyllis was proud to go back to school and pursue her career as a Unit Secretary at Providence Hospital in Seattle (5-South). She loved her job, and her co-workers. During her time there, she was named “Employee of the Month”, and was personally thanked for her exemplary service by Washington state Sentator, Mr. Phil Talmadge. She later retired to spend more time with her Frankie & Family.

During their retirement, Frank & Phyllis traveled extensively; Hawaii was a romantic favorite of theirs. They truly cherished the Roush/O’Hair, Champaign/Emmick family, & USS Pennsy Reunions, where they were able to visit with their dear Friends & Family in New York & Minnesota.

After Frank passed away in 2010, Phyllis was proud to live independently, but she missed her beloved Frankie every day.

On January 1, 2020, Phyllis left this earthly plane to be with her love, Frank, her parents, Floyd & Edith, brother, Dwight Roush, and their son, Gary. She leaves her son, Craig (Gayle), brothers, Wayne (Ellie) & Jim (Doris), grandchildren, Robert,Brian,Terry,Floyd,Matthew & Michael (Desirée), many great-grandchildren, nieces & nephews, cousins, and many dear friends to cherish her loving memory.
