Ai Thi Nguyen, devoted mother, sister, aunt, grandaunt, and great‑grandaunt, passed away on November 23, 2025. Born in Hue, Vietnam, on March 19, 1941, Ai was the second‑youngest child of Gia Van Nguyen and Khuyen Thi Nguyen.
A refugee of the Vietnam War, she fled to the United States in 1979 with her daughter Ai Khanh and her nephew Dung. There she gave birth to her son Richmond and endured years of domestic violence until 1999, when she left her abuser for good.
She had three great loves: her faith, her family, and her plants.
As a devout Catholic, Ai served others through prayer and volunteer work. A member of the Legion of Mary and the Confraternity of Catholic Mothers, she continued to help members of the community until she could no longer ambulate because of declining health.
She was instrumental in helping several family members become U.S. citizens and assisted them as they put down roots pursuing the American dream.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her; her presence will be long felt.
Ai’s funeral will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes, 10243 12th Ave. S, Seattle, WA 98168, on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. The Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Khanh D. Nguyen. Her body will be laid to rest at Gethsemane Cemetery in Federal Way at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in Ai’s memory may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or Catholic Community Services of Western Washington.
