ARTHUR STEPHEN “Steve” BREED passed away on March 11th, 2023 in Seattle, WA. He was born on December 1st, 1954 in Auburn, WA to Arthur L. Breed and Mary G. Breed (Hill).
He was the 2nd of 9 kids.
He attended Queen Anne High School in Seattle in 1970 and 1971, and he graduated from Twisp High School in 1973.
He started working at Todd’s Shipyard (Seattle) in 1978. He retired April 10, 2013.
He met the love of his life,Tammie Lynn Breed (Lieferman) at the Riverside Inn in Tukwila, and they were married on June 3, 1978.
Steve was preceded in death by his wife Tammie, his parents, and a little brother, Eddie.
Steve leaves behind seven surviving siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Steve and Tammie did not have children of their own, so the nieces and nephews held a special place in his heart.
Steve is also survived by Brandon McNelly who he and Tammie helped care for and mentor, and they considered him their kid.
Steve loved his dogs: Baby Girl, Bella, Buddy, Joey, and his final companion, Moey. Winnie, the cat was also held in high esteem.
One of Steve’s greatest qualities was that he was always there for us, not just for family but also for friends. He helped anyone who called and was ready to fix a car or provide a room to stay for a while. Steve was generous that way. Most family members lived with Steve at one time or another.
One of Steve’s hobbies was his love to take things apart…and sometimes to put them back together. This included his parents 1960 Chevy pickup which is still in pieces.
Steve’s love of sports led him to mentor many youngsters as a little league coach. He was a die-hard fan of the Seahawks, Mariners, and the Sonics. It was rare for him to miss a game, mostly watching them on TV. He and Brandon did get to check off one of his bucket-list items; they attended the Seahawks vs. Steelers Superbowl in 2006. Attending was a dream come true, but sadly the final score was not.
Steve was always willing to engage in a heated political debate. You would get a piece of his mind, and he would tell you he was right (likely a genetic trait). One of his finest attributes was that if he completely disagreed with you, he loved you and you knew that.
He was a patriot and proud of his family heritage. He would want us to say that the Battle of Bunker Hill was actually fought on his ancestor’s land, Breed’s Hill.
Rest easy Steve, you were loved more than you know.
Final arrangements have been by Emmick Family Funeral Home, West Seattle.
A combined CELEBRATION OF LIFE for Steve and Tammie will be held on June 3rd, 2023, at 1pm to be held at White Center Eagles. This would have been their 45th wedding anniversary.
The family wishes memorial contributions be made to the West Seattle Little League or American Diabetes Research.
