Barbara was born on February 9, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. After a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease, she passed away peacefully on October 16, 2017 in Seattle, Washington with her loving Husband of over 66 years by her side. The grace and fortitude she upheld to the very end is a true testament to her faith and strength in spirit.
Barbara was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from Michigan State University School of Dietetics as a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. After graduation, she moved to Seattle to complete an internship at Harborview Medical Center as a registered Dietician. She married Alastair D. C. McNicoll, the love of her life, on April 14, 1951, and retired after several years to raise their family.
Barbara lived the edict, "I Am Third", and her 62 year membership to the University Congregational Church, where she gave tirelessly, paid testament to that fact. Throughout her life she was a past president of the Women's University Club, past board member of Seattle Day Care (now Child Haven), past board member Seattle YWCA, and life member of both the Seattle Yacht Club and Ancient Skiers. Her summer activities included swimming laps at the Laurelhurst Beach Club and many happy times on Lopez Island with family and all her great friends at Sunshine Isle Estates.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Marjorie Jewett, and her brother David Jewett. She is survived by her husband Alastair D C McNicoll, children Susan (husband Lyman) Thorsteinson, Andrew (wife Laurie) McNicoll, and Michael McNicoll. She was most proud of her six grandchildren, Cameron, Anne, David, Christopher, Ellen, and Jane.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Maple Leaf Assisted Living facility for their care during Barbara's last years, and to Providence Hospice for their compassion in her final days.
A beautiful Celebration of Life Service was held for Barbara at The University Congregational Church on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
