Charlotte Laverne Kleweno DuBois

February 15, 1943 — April 22, 2025

Charlotte Kleweno DuBois passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 22, 2025. Born in Clarkston, Washington, on February 15, 1943, she was the beloved daughter of Verna Futter Kleweno and Ernest P. Kleweno. She grew up in the scenic town of Enterprise, Oregon, where she worked on her family’s sheep ranch in the mountains and met the love of her life just a few miles away in Joseph. Charlotte married Richard “Dick” DuBois on September 30, 1960, in Lewiston, Idaho. Together, they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and adventure, raising their family in Lapwai, Idaho while working for the Nez Perce Tribe.

In her twenties, Charlotte became a licensed small aircraft pilot, proudly flying through Northern Idaho and landing in challenging spots like the narrow canyon near Dworshak Dam on the Clearwater River. She had a deep love for animals and spent much of her life raising rabbits, dogs, and sheep. Charlotte was active in 4-H and served as a rabbit competition judge. She also had a passion for genealogy, dedicating countless hours to researching and recording her family’s history.

Charlotte played the saxophone and occasionally the tuba in her school band, following in the musical footsteps of her father and aunt. She and Dick shared a love of boating and fishing, and after becoming empty-nesters, they enjoyed many years with the Tri-Cities Yacht Club, especially the annual Christmas boat parade.

She earned her GED in the 1970s and later a BA from Eastern Washington University. In 1975, the family moved to Othello, Washington, where Charlotte worked with local agricultural companies and later became a District Court Clerk and was elected District Court Judge in the 1980s. She and Dick lived in Othello for 35 years, continuing to raise sheep on their property outside of town.

After Dick’s passing in 2008 and the loss of her parents in 2010, Charlotte moved to Bremerton, Washington, where she found peace in her waterfront home on Mud Bay. She loved watching the tides, herons, and eagles from her porch.

In 2011, she married Jan Dorshkind and after his passing in 2021, she moved to Renton, Washington, to be closer to her children.

Charlotte is survived by her two children, Patricia DuBois Harris and Clint (Liz) DuBois; her younger twin brothers, Doug (Bev) and Dave (Pam) Kleweno; and her four grandchildren, Clay and Rowan DuBois, and Cade and Amelia Harris. She also leaves behind dear friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Charlotte will be laid to rest at Bess Hampton Memorial Gardens in Othello, Washington, beside her beloved Richard and her parents on Saturday June 21, 2025.
