Daniel Allyn Ballard

February 6, 1956 — December 5, 2018

Dan died on December 5th at his home in Seattle. We lost Danny too soon; he was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was born on February 6, 1956 in Corvallis, Oregon to George Ballard and Clarann Lasic Ballard, their first child. Dan graduated from Edmonds High (class of 1974) in Edmonds, Washington where he participated in the Track and Field program, attaining some success in cross-country and distance running. He went on to study graphic design at San Jose State University obtaining a BA in 1985. He maintained a keen interest in Track and Field (he took his 13 year old brother to the '76 Summer Olympics in Montreal, took his dad to the '84 Olympics in Los Angeles, and never missed the Olympic trials in Eugene or the Pre Fontaine Classics with nieces and nephews). He also maintained a continued focus in art and graphic design throughout his entire life.

After graduation from San Jose State, he returned to Seattle and became President and Historian of the Society of Professional Graphic Designers and later Historian of the Graphic Artists Guild. His professional life included being a free-lance graphic designer and employment by several Seattle companies including Microsoft, PacCar, Home Depot and Humongous Entertainment where he created Putt-Putt and the Freddie Fish game series.

The remarkable thing about Dan was his kind and caring nature and his endless concern and involvement in social causes. His kind and gentle soul will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his father, George (Carmen), his brothers Matthew and John (Amanda), and his sisters Diane Timberlake (Todd) & Maria Brennan (Steve).

Memorial celebration Saturday, January 12th, 5pm at the Swedish Club, 1920 Dexter Ave N.
