Darrell James Castle

September 28, 1948 – August 12, 2026

Darrell-Dad-PaPa…A 75 year resident of West Seattle, Washington passed away comfortably at home in the care of his family and Continuum Hospice after a long battle with cancer…he was 77 years old.

Darrell was born in Perham, Minnesota to Dorsey and Myrtle Castle – the 8th of 10 children and when he was 2 years old the family moved to West Seattle where he attended Lafayette Elementary, James Madison Jr High, and West Seattle High School. He met the love of his life, Janice and nearly 60 years together, they created a loving home where they raised their daughter, worked hard, and played harder!

He learned at a young age the meaning of hard work, loyalty and the value of a dollar…loaning his siblings money only to charge interest when paid back! He spent his entire adult working career at Washington Chain & Supply starting out in the yard and working his way up through the ranks to President and retired in 2010.

His passions in life were spending time with family and friends, camping trips to Canada and Naches, hunting which included 26 moose trips, fishing, playing cribbage, wearing colorful clothes (the brighter the better), drinking a Martini or a glass of red wine, and thoroughbred horse racing at Longacres and Emerald Downs where he and Janice owned several horses through the years. He loved watching Janice sing karaoke, teaching Karri the fun of camping, dirt bike riding, classic cars, cruising Alki Beach, and instilling in her a strong work ethic. His true pride and joy was his granddaughter Celina…PaPa to her…he was so impressed with her many talents...singing, acting, ballet and you could always find him in the audience cheering her on. They spent many hours fishing, playing cribbage, and enjoyed her photography, especially in her annual calendar she created!

Darrell is survived by his wife Janice Castle (Etue) of West Seattle, daughter Karri and son-in-law Matt Boerner of Silverdale, granddaughter Celina DeJong and partner Jack Barker of Bremerton, sister Marlys Johnson of Bellingham, sister Shirley Buntrock of New York Mills Minnesota, and Brother-In-Law Jerry Etue of Matlock along with countless cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and his Washington Chain Family.
