David James Dijulio

It’s been said that a true artist is not inspired, but rather inspires others. If that’s true, then David James DiJulio was, indeed, a true artist.

As a painter, musician, friend or dearly loved family member, Dave inspired the people around him, all throughout his life. Born September 17, 1957, in Edmonds, Dave grew up in Seattle and on Mercer Island, surrounded by his seven brothers and sisters.

Although never particularly fond of the uniforms, Dave attended Our Lady of Fatima and St. Monica's grade school and Seattle Preparatory High School. He studied at Central Washington State University, where he met his wife Sherry, and went on to graduate from The Institute of Seattle, née the Burnley School of Art. There, Dave honed the natural talent and artistic passion that would shape his life. After a successful career as an Art Director and Graphic Artist with Evans Kraft and several other Seattle advertising agencies, Dave established his own boutique agency before dedicating himself completely to painting and design.

An avid skier, cyclist and guitarist, Dave brought a passion for perfection to everything he did – and instilled similar passion in everyone who knew him. When he wasn’t inspiring someone, he was usually making them laugh with his sardonic wit and relentless sense of the wry and ridiculous. If you walked into a party or family event and heard people laughing, Dave had doubt already arrived.

Dave left us on November 4, 2024, due to sudden cardiac complications. He is survived by his former wife, Sherry DiJulio, his his son Michael (Tessa) DiJulio and daughter Tricia DiJulio; his grandchildren Alyssa, Elena, Arianna and Glenn; his sisters Christy (Dan) Smith, Mary Lyn (John) Thompson, Nancy (Mike) Kissler, and Darcy (Mike) Schuster; and brothers Tom (Moira) DiJulio, Tim (Margarita) DiJulio, and Brian (Barbara) DiJulio; 15 nieces and nephews and 12 grandnieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his father, James P. DiJulio, Jr., and mother, Joan A. La Fontaine DiJulio.

Like many artists, Dave sometimes struggled to find peace in this world but he never failed to see its beauty or to capture it on a canvas. And art lives forever.

A funeral mass celebrating Dave's life will be held Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, at 4900 NE 50th St, Seattle, WA 98105. A reception will follow.
