David Jonathon DuRoss passed away surrounded by family on March 24th, 2026. He was born November 14th, 1944 in Lakewood, OH, the youngest child of William Henry DuRoss II and Mary Elizabeth (Laubscher) DuRoss.
The family moved to Bethesda, Maryland in 1950 where David grew up an avid Washington Senators fan. He earned an undergraduate degree from University of Alabama and graduate degrees from University of Pittsburgh and Smith College before embarking on a career in the wine industry. Over the years, David enjoyed several different sides of the selling of wine business from retailer, distributor, importer, to producer. He loved the travel and relationships he developed, covering most of the United States and almost every country in Europe. When he wasn’t traveling, he lived in each region of the United States, finally settling near his son in Seattle, WA, for his final chapter.
David relished road trips around the country, exploring national parks and other wilderness areas, including Yosemite, Zion, and the White Mountains. He had a passion for reading, opera, crossword puzzles, and sports, especially baseball. He was equally happy in a Vienna opera house, on top of Half Dome in Yosemite, or in the stands at an MLB ballpark. He grew up with the Washington Senators, but picked up new teams as he made his way across the country, attending his first MLB playoff game as a Mariners fan with his family.
When not reading or watching professional sports, David could be found cheering on his “Favorite Granddaughter” or “Favorite Grandson” in their soccer, baseball, and flag football games. He had a wonderful sense of humor and never shied away from telling stories of his many adventures.
David is survived by his son, Sloan DuRoss (Kathleen), his two grandchildren, Sami and Wyatt DuRoss, and his brother, William DuRoss III. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sara DuRoss.
