West Seattle

David Jeschke, 57, of Seattle, Washington, died on December 9, 2024 of Sarcoma cancer. He was born April 28, 1967 in Elkhart, Indiana to Marlin and Charmaine Jeschke, and grew up in Goshen, Indiana. David attended Bethany Christian High School where he played soccer and basketball. After a year at Goshen College, he studied Computer Science at New York University, graduating with a BA in 1989. He received a Masters degree in 1991 from the University of Texas, Austin, and had internships along the way at Microsoft and IBM TJ Watson Research Center.

David worked at Microsoft from 1991 to 1996 as a software engineer. While at Microsoft, he met Kim Rush and they were married in 2001. They lived in West Seattle where they raised two children, Nick and Cate. After Microsoft, he worked for a variety of software startups and pursued a couple of his own startup projects.

In 2007, during a volunteer role at Roxhill Elementary School in Seattle, David envisioned a tool that could help students develop essential math skills. David incorporated XtraMath as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and word quickly spread amongst teachers about this effective software. For the next 15 years, he selflessly built and expanded XtraMath into one of the most popular supplemental math programs ever, touching the lives of millions of people around the world. David served as Executive Director until 2022 and continued to serve on the Board of Directors, being honored as Founder Emeritus in 2024.

With a lifelong love for sport and adventure, David enjoyed badminton matches, volleyball leagues, skiing, hiking, and every kind of travel. He would set out on his eFoil at Seacrest park, water ski with family at Gig Harbor, and paddleboard waterways with his closest companions. In his free time, David enjoyed reading about math and science and was known to bring a textbook along on vacations. He eventually accumulated a library of over 500 math and science textbooks.

David was a beloved father and partner, esteemed brother and uncle, loyal friend and master organizer. He always made time to visit friends and prioritized family throughout his lifetime. He is survived by his partner Sasha Martin, children Nick and Cate Jeschke, sister Margaret (Bart Miller) Jeschke, brother Eric (Amy Baum) Jeschke, mother-in-law, Patricia Rush, sister-in-law Stephanie (David) Glenn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kim Rush, and brother-in-law Dan Rush.

A Celebration of Life gathering is planned for March 1, 2025 in Seattle, Washington.
