Diane Marie Ongstad Obituary

WA - Diane Ongstad lived up to her birthdate by embodying the spirit of love and devotion that Valentine's Day Celebrates. She was born and raised in West Seattle, was a loving daughter to Richard and Florida Corrigan. Attending Holy Rosary elementary and high school, which was an all-girls school, where many lifelong friendships were made.

Mom was a devoted wife to her husband of 53 years Ronald Ongstad. Their love story was centered on a life of hard work, travel, adventure and dancing. Many of their wonderful memories were camping in the VW Van. They also traveled the world, Italy was a constant, they loved seeing new places and meeting new people. One of mom's favorite things to find on these trips were rocks shaped like a heart. Their marriage centered on cherishing each other. They were best friends, loving companions and formed an outstanding partnership.

Mom was amazing at creating a warm and supportive home for her son Erik Ongstad (Katherine) and daughter Colette Behrens (Erich). She loved us and shared her joy of the outdoors, family and friends. We will miss her ability to solve every problem, find every bargain and create a memorable meal on the spur of the moment. Mom celebrated all the accomplishments for her six grandchildren, she was at all of their event. As a loving Grandmother she created lifelong memories with each, taking them on so many adventures and memorable camping trips in the VW. One highlight was the roller coasters at Disneyland! To top it off she was always available to provide the best haircuts!

Mom was not only devoted to her family but also to her friends. Always the first to offer a place to stay, loved hosting parties, providing a helping hand or an amazing meal. Volunteering was a large part of her life from school functions, church events, guilds and many other organizations. For the last several years, she found so much joy at the Veteran Hospital and loved her time spent with the "Wednesday Red Coat Crew".

Diane will always be admired for her ability to connect with others and was forever adding to her circle, she never met anyone that she did not want to strike up a conversation with. Her ability to tell a story and humor was legendary. She used this skill of connection and her competitive nature to build a successful promotional products company, ASAP, that is still thriving today on the foundation she created. We were so lucky to have Mom's guidance. In our homes, when we are looking to solve a problem, we often say, "What would Grandma do?". Advice she often said was "if you don't know what to do Just Show Up".

Diane's legacy will live on in all the people whom she touched. The love and support she poured into every relationship. She taught us to find humor in every moment, to care deeply for others, and to always bring snacks!

Diane's request was a private ceremony with her children, their spouses and grandchildren. We will celebrate Mom's life with red wine, biscotti and great music. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Saint Vincent De Paul.

Mom was a Valentine baby, and fittingly, her heart was the center of her world. She will be deeply missed and forever loved. Ciao Bella.
