Fred L. McKenzie, Jr. was born on November 22, 1949 and passed away on September 9, 2018 after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He lived his whole life in West Seattle, graduating from West Seattle High School in 1968. Right after high school he went to work at Boeing but an apprenticeship opportunity came up at Washington Iron Works and he was accepted into the program.
He stayed with the company until it closed in the early 80's. Never out of work, Fred went to work for several companies in the area, (Nicholson Mfg, Ederer, and Lindmark Machine) before going to work for Puget Sound Naval Shipyards.
He loved the job but hated the commute so when an offer to return to Boeing came up, he was quick to accept. He was with Boeing for 30 years until he was forced to retire due to his health.
To those who knew Fred, he had many passions: his family, his rotties, drag racing, a part time bow building business, and hunting. In the later years, he stopped hunting but enjoyed target shooting at the Police range.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Maurine, his children, Clint {Cheryl) Allison, sister Sharon McKenzie, sisters-in-law, Christine Schnorf Devine (Don) Ernestine Schnorf, niece Shelli Hugg and family, and numerous cousins.
A very special thank you to Providence Hospice and most especially his nurse, Selina.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 21st, at the West Seattle Eagles, 4426 California Avenue SW, 2pm.
