Genevieve Ann Foley was born on January
26, 1931 in Seattle, Washington to William &
Irene Kohler. Affectionately known as 'Honey'
to her family and 'Genny' to her friends, she
graduated from Holy Rosary High School in
1949 and married Gerard, better known as
'Gerry', Louis Foley on December 30, 1954.
They lived in San Francisco, CA for the early
years of their marriage while Gerry served in
the Army and completed his Bachelor of Arts
in History at Univ. of San Francisco. They
enjoyed the culture, the restaurants and other
pleasures of the growing city immensely, but
decided to move back to Seattle in 1964, two
years after the birth of their only child Brian.
In Seattle Gerry began a 15 year career at the
Bon Marche and Genny took to being a great
mother... The Bon transferred the family to
Spokane, then Bellingham. In Bellingham
they lived in a lovely secluded home on
Chuckanut Drive with a whippet named
Stormy, surrounded by forest and a just a short
walk to the beach or up a mountain.
They bought their first home in Tacoma after
a couple more promotions. Genny loved many
thing aside from her family: books, shopping,
gardening, cooking, baking, and walking to the
library. She cared for her father Bill, Auntie
Ann and mother Irene when they became sick.
In 2013 Genny moved to W. Seattle to be
closer to quality healthcare. Gerry and Brian
became her primary caregivers. Gerry
preceded her into the Light in 2017, one day
before their 63rd wedding anniversary.
She passed away peacefully at her home in W.
Seattle after a long battle with dementia, early
on November 27, 2019. She was 88 years old.
Funeral Mass was held at Holy Rosary Catholic
Church on January 4, 2020. Both Genny and
Gerry have been subsequently buried at Calvary
Cemetery in Seattle, WA.
