Helen Marie Harris

Helen Marie Harris passed away on June 20, 2021 at the age of 100, in Normandy Park , WA, where she had been residing since 2018. She was born November 22, 1920, in Tacoma, to Raymond Erickson and Mary Edgerton Erickson, a member of the pioneer Edgerton family. 13 years after her birth, the family welcomed another daughter, Helen’s sister Phyllis Joanne.

In the late mid 1940’s, she married Nephi Willard Clayton. They had one son, Eric Willard Clayton. In the Mid 1950’s, they divorced. In the late 1950’s she married David Bertram Harris, who she remained married to until his death in the mid 1990’s.

As a young girl, the family moved several times, owing to her father’s job, but she always considered Puyallup her home. She graduated from high school in Seattle, but considered herself to be a Puyallup High School Viking and would attend as many reunions as she could. She attended business college in Seattle, and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper. In later years she developed an interest in antiques, and had a small business in antiques, especially antique crystal and china. She loved attending the Phoenix Antique Show every year. She had an avid interest in genealogy and donated family items to GW Edgerton Elementary School in Puyallup, the Meeker Mansion and various historical societies in the area. She lived in Port Townsend for and Des Moines for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents and both Nephi Clayton and David Harris. She also lost her long-time companion, her cat, Bunny, a month before she passed.

Helen is survived by her son, Eric Clayton, her daughter-in-law Victoria Persons, her granddaughter Branwyn Evans, her husband Rob Evans, her sister Phyllis Johnson, three nephews, Darryl, Keith and Warren Johnson and their families and many friends. She lived her life to the fullest, and will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Graveside services and interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery in Puyallup on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 11am.
