Jane Tozer Paton

April 15, 1932 — May 7, 2024

Burien

It is with a profound sense of loss and a celebration of a life extraordinarily lived that the family of Jane Tozer Paton announces her peaceful passing on May 7, 2024, at the age of 92, in Burien, Washington. Born on April 15, 1932, in Everett, Washington, Jane's effervescent spirit and boundless energy were evident from an early age. Jane's early years in Everett were filled with adventure and passion for the great outdoors. She was an avid fisherwoman, hunter, and skier, and her love for horses led her to become an accomplished jumper, garnering numerous medals, trophies, and awards. Her leadership and teaching skills shone brightly during her teen years as she developed a swim lesson program at Silver Lake while still in high school. Her quest for knowledge took her to the University of Arizona and the University of Washington, where she pursued studies in Psychology and Education, laying the groundwork for her diverse and impactful career. Jane's professional journey was as varied as it was fulfilling. She excelled as a real estate agent, dog breeder, and swim instructor, touching lives and building communities with her warmth and enthusiasm. Jane's zest for life and her love for celebration made her an integral part of her community. She was the heart and soul behind the annual Christmas caroling group in Yarrow Point, spreading joy and festive cheer with every note. As a campfire group leader, she inspired her troop with adventures in the great outdoors, from camping to boating in the San Juan Islands, and exploring the wonders of Victoria. Her passion for dogs led her to build and run a successful Kennel in Woodinville. There, she bred and trained field trial Labradors, earning respect and admiration from fellow dog enthusiasts. After a rewarding career, Jane retired to Camano Island, where she embraced the tranquility of island life and pursued her love for shell collecting and crafts. Her grandchildren fondly remember accompanying her to craft shows, where they would "help" her run the booth, learning from her artistic talents. Jane's green thumb transformed her small lot on Camano Island into a bountiful garden, abundant with strawberries, raspberries, Cascade berries, apples, cherries, artichokes, lettuce, carrots, and more. Her canning skills, particularly her pickles and asparagus, became legendary, and she generously passed on this culinary art to her granddaughters, ensuring the continuation of this cherished family tradition. Jane's legacy is lovingly carried on by her three children, Grant Paton, Jody Albright, and James Paton, her seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and who will miss her deeply. They will treasure the memories of a life lived with passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. As we bid farewell to Jane Tozer Paton, we reflect on a life that was as fruitful as the gardens she tended and as vibrant as the communities she nurtured. Her indomitable spirit and the love she gave so freely will continue to inspire all who knew her.
