Jim Coury

February 3, 1955 — October 1, 2022

Jim Coury was born in Elmhurst, Illinois to Alfred and Mary Lou Coury on February 3, 1955, the third of four children. He passed away on October 1st, at the age of 67, from the effects of two recent strokes. At the age of 6, Jim moved with his family to Seattle where his father had taken a job with Boeing. He grew up in Magnolia and later Lake Hills in Bellevue attending St. Margaret and St. Louise grade schools.

He loved sports at an early age and when the family moved to Coco Beach Florida, he developed a passion for fishing and golf. Upon the family's return from Florida in 1970, settling in Twin Lakes, Jim attended Federal Way High School, excelling in school and playing on the golf team. It was also there that he met the love of his life, Lynn Majors.

Jim and Lynn both attended the University of Puget Sound (UPS) and were married in the Kilworth Chapel on campus on August 27, 1978. Jim was a four-year member of the UPS golf team. With a degree in Business and Economics, Jim spent his career in the maritime shipping industry and retired in 2013. Jim was always known as a fun loving, generous person with a great wit and sense of humor.

He loved and was very proud of his two sons, Stephen and Patrick, and later in life relished traveling with the family to locations all over the world. In recent years, he especially cherished fishing trips to Alaska with the boys. Jim was also very fond of the family pets. Jim is survived by wife Lynn, sons Stephen and Patrick, and by sister Karen Stevens of Menlo Park, CA, and brothers Mike of Kent, WA and Phil of Federal Way, WA. The family requests any donations to be made to your local pet shelter.
