Larry Lacktrup

Larry Lacktrup was born October 7, 1947 to Charles and Johanna Lacktrup.  He lived in Seattle his entire life, graduating from Franklin High School and then attending the University of Washington.  He graduated from UW in 1969 with a teaching certificate and went on to teach business classes to students at West Seattle High School for the next 30 years.  He enjoyed coaching Girls Soccer for many years and also coached Track and Field at West Seattle for several years.

Larry passed away July 9, 2019 after a lengthy battle with brain tumors that had been a part of his life for the last 7 years.  He is survived by his wife of 49 years Barbara Marilley, son Jayson (Dianna), daughter Megan (Andy) and 4 grandkids Joseph, Ava, Ruby and Grace.

He was a fabulous husband, terrific fatherand adored papa and will be missed every day.

Services with be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 1st at St. Joseph Church, 732 18th Avenue East, Seattle, WA 98112.

Before retiring Larry enjoyed watching his children, Jayson and Megan play sports and coached or helped coach many of their sports teams.  He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Barbara, her sister Pam and Pam’s husband Greg. Larry spent a lot of time on the golf course as well.  FORE!!!
After retiring Larry joined the Mariners’ staff giving tours of Safeco Field.  It was the perfect retirement job for Larry as he was a true baseball fan and could retrieve, from his memory, players’ names, positions and statistics for many teams. He loved that job. Larry took a brief interlude from his job as his grandchildren started arriving and he took on a new role as caregiver for them, teaching them the joy of being outside, taking walks and spent many hours reading Dr. Seuss.
Larry loved going to the Hood Canal.

A ‘tin’ cabin (aka a double wide modular home) was purchased with a view of the canal and plenty of community beach for digging clams, harvesting oysters and going out to get crab.
This was Larry’s Happy Place.  Sitting on the deck and watching or waiting for an Eagle to land in the ‘eagle tree’ was one of his favorite things to do.

After Larry married Barbara in 1970, he, being an only child, got to know the joys of being part of a large family.  Barbara has 6 sisters and they all married and had children. Now their children have children. You get the idea. Family celebrations were and are still epic.
Larry loved all his family and his friends, all of whom remained true to him during this challenging part of his life.  He especially looked forward to having breakfast with his co-retiree’s each month at the Chelan Café in West Seattle. Many blessings to you and those who gave Larry a ride to and from this event especially Paul Quam.
Please remember Larry, his gentle nature, kindness, always up for trying something new, his loud laugh, recognizable voice and pretty much love of everything.  His family is grieving his departure from this life yet finds solace knowing that Larry has found eternal rest and peace in heaven.
