Martin (Marty) Joseph Miller, born on January 26, 1949, to Clare Elizabeth Kranz and Thomas Bernard Miller, passed away on March 16th at the age of 76, surrounded by his loving family.
Marty’s early life began in Yakima, where he lived until the age of three before moving to Seattle in 1952 when his father entered the University of Washington. He attended Our Lady of the Lake for grade school, St. Edwards Seminary for high school, and began his college education at Seattle University. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Washington in 1975 and later earned a master’s degree from Seattle University's Business School in 1981.
Marty served his country with distinction in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1971 to 1972. Upon returning home, he met his wife Christine through friends at the Blue Banjo in Seattle, and they married in September of 1973.
Throughout his professional life, Marty had a varied career, working in sectors such as banking, retail/travel, management consulting focused on information technology and data security. He retired in 2017, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and excellence in his field.
Marty and Christine raised two wonderful daughters, Alexa Mennella and Tara Miller. In addition to leaving behind his wife and daughters, he is survived by sons-in-law Mathew Mennella and Joe Twyman; grandsons Nick Mennella, Marty D. Miller, and Leo Miller; and his siblings Maryanne (Bob) Wilkie, Jim (Lorraine) Miller, Linda (Steve) Meredith, Bernie (Marilee) Miller, Mark Miller, Jean (Rick) Moore and Beth (Rick) Post. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
A devout member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Marty dedicated his time to volunteering across numerous boards, supporting his community with unwavering commitment. He was known for his kindness, passion for learning, and avid love for nature.
Marty’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the community for their support over the past four years, especially the Veterans Administration and Northwest Hospital staff for their exceptional care.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Our Lady of the Lake endowment fund at 3520 NE 89th Street Seattle 98115. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22nd at Our Lady of the Lake Church 8900 35th Ave Northeast Seattle 98115.
Marty’s presence was a blessing to all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
