Marvel J Hogue Balli, a beacon of kindness and generosity, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 17, 2026, in Seattle, Washington, concluding a life rich with love and service. Born on November 21, 1930, in Oakes, North Dakota, Marvel’s early years were steeped in the values of faith, family, and community that would define her remarkable journey.
Marvel’s life was one marked by dedication and hard work. After graduating from high school in her hometown, she furthered her education at a business school in Minneapolis, Minnesota, equipping her with the skills that would serve her well in her professional life. Marvel’s career was as diverse as it was impactful, from her time as a rancher’s wife, where she raised four children—Vicki Appleton, Mary Henson, Lyle Hogue, and Carol Turner—and managed to keep both family and ranch hands well-fed and cared for, to her role as an executive secretary at prestigious companies such as Bethlehem Steel and Ensco Development.
Her professional endeavors, however, were only part of Marvel’s story. She found profound joy in her volunteer work, where she taught nutrition to low-income families and later installed and taught the use of emergency alert systems for shut-ins. These roles allowed Marvel to touch the lives of many, providing them with the tools and knowledge to improve their own well-being.
Marvel’s faith was the cornerstone of her existence. A devout Christian, she was an active supporter of her church, embodying the teachings of compassion and service in every aspect of her life. Her love for God’s creation was evident in her enjoyment of the great outdoors, where she found solace and inspiration in camping and hiking the trails of Washington State. Her garden was a testament to her nurturing spirit, and her rescue of indoor plants spoke of her desire to cultivate beauty in every corner of her world.
Her selfless nature extended to the care of animals, as she volunteered to foster those in need from the humane society. Furthermore, Marvel’s graciousness was on full display as she often transported individuals to medical appointments, ensuring they received the care they needed.
Marvel’s legacy is carried on by her loving brother, Arlen Dethlefsen, her four children, and her cherished grandchildren, Kelsey Henson, Olivia Turner, and Noah Turner, who will continue to walk in the light of her example. Marvel’s life was a testament to the virtues of generosity, kindness, and thoughtfulness—qualities that were woven into the very fabric of her being.
As we bid farewell to Marvel J Hogue Balli, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and grace. Her departure from this earthly realm is not an end but a transition to a place of divine peace, where she will surely continue to watch over us. We take solace in the knowledge that her spirit remains a guiding force, her memory a blessing to all who knew her. Marvel’s journey on earth has concluded, but the echoes of her love will resonate for eternity.
