Mike Farley

January 6, 1947 — July 25, 2024

Seattle

Mike Farley passed away at Valley Medical Center in Renton on July 25, 2024, following an unexpected collapse at his home. Mike was born on January 6, 1947 in Spokane, Washington. He graduated from Mead High School in 1965. He loved academics and sports of all kinds. He earned varsity letters in football, wrestling and baseball while at Mead and was the valedictorian of his graduating class. In addition, he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He was selected by the BSA to represent Spokane area scouts at the Seattle World's Fair in 1962 as a World's Fair Service Scout, acting as a guide and ambassador for the public. He was also selected to represent the Mead School District at Boy's State. Mike earned an appointment to West Point and received a full ride academic scholarship offer from Washington State University, however, turned both down to attend the University of Washington where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. While at the U, he became a proud and forever member of the SAE Fraternity, and rowed on the UW freshman crew team. Needless to say, The Boys in the Boat was one of his favorite movies. Mike continued his education at the University of Washington Dental School earning his D.D.S. From there he established a trusted and well-respected family dental practice in Federal Way, Washington, retaining the same staff and loyal patients for the next 46 years until his retirement. Mike's interests were broad and varied, starting with family and friends he loved. He was passionate about snow skiing, fly fishing and the UW Dawgs, bleeding purple and gold at every opportunity. He was a ski patrolman at Stevens Pass Ski Area and was a ski instructor at Alpental at Snoqualmie Pass. When the Seahawks came to town, he became a day one season ticket holder. If you go to Lumen Field, you will find seats in the first level on the 50-yard line with Mike and Shane's names imprinted forever. Of course, when the Kraken came to town, he became a day one season ticket holder for them as well. Mike is survived by Cheri, his wife of 51 years, his son Shane, daughter Brie, his greatest joys, grandson Colton and granddaughter Keenan, and his brother Ron. In addition, there are numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces who will carry on his memory and legacy for generations. A memorial service for Mike will be held at The Cove Normandy Park Community Club on September 9, 2024 from 3-7 p.m., located at 1500 SW Shorebrook Dr., Normandy Park, WA 98166. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial gifts be made in Mike's name to the University of Washington Husky Promise Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarship assistance to Washington resident undergraduate students. In the alternative, please select a charity of your choice. The family invites those who are interested to view and sign Mike's online Guest Book on the Tribute Wall, above.
