Raymond Kenneth Macchione

Raymond Kenneth Macchione, known to most as Ray, passed away peacefully of natural causes at home in Seattle, Washington on September 10, 2026, at the age of seventy-three.

Ray was born on October 8th, 1952, in Manhattan, NY and was the third of four children to Frances Diaferio and Arthur Macchione.

He had very fond memories of growing up on 39th Street and 9th Avenue in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, and then relocated to Rosedale, Queens in the late 1960’s with his parents. He joined them, working for years at Metropolitan Life in Manhattan, before starting a family and a new career in the US Postal Service. In the early 1990’s, Ray and his three children moved to Lancaster County, PA, where he worked as restaurant manager and delivery driver. In 2001, Ray moved to Sarasota, FL and enjoyed several years there before moving back to New York and settling in Astoria, Queens for a short time. After travelling to Seattle at the end of 2006, Ray spent most of the last 20 years living with his son and daughter-in-law in West Seattle, where he worked as a security guard before retiring.

A true “New Yorker” and the epitome of an independent spirit, he was extremely outgoing and greeted everyone with a big, friendly smile. Ray loved the horses, spicy Italian sausage, and a classic mob movie…but he was never happier than when he was with family and friends, cooking far too much food, each time the opportunity presented itself. As a friend, Ray was quick to lend an ear, lighten the mood, or hand you a beer­­ – whatever the situation required. As a father and grandfather, he was gentle, loving, extremely supportive and he did everything in his power to provide for his family. Over the years, his kindness and acceptance of others caused him to be “adopted” as a second dad by many of his kid’s friends, most affectionately referring to him as “Old Man” or “Pops”.

Ray Macchione was immensely loved, and his unexpected loss is heavy for all of those who were lucky enough to know him.

Ray is survived by his son, Vincent Raymond Macchione and daughter-in-law, Sarah Rebecca Kilgore of Seattle, WA, daughter Nicole Elizabeth McDermott (Macchione) of Buffalo, NY and granddaughters Gabrielle Rae McDermott and Lillian Rose McDermott of Buffalo, NY. He is also survived by brother Robert Macchione of Whiting, NJ, sister Rose Marie Maze of Eastampton, NJ, and brother Ronald Macchione of Sebastian, FL. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristen Rose Macchione of Lancaster, PA.
