Rhonda May Tingley Carter

1960-2023

Rhonda was a woman who had the opportunity to live a vast life while facing her limitations head on. Being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at a young age was treated as nothing more than a speed bump. An obstacle to slow down, and over take before continuing on to the true joys of the world ahead.

Rhonda was the eldest born child to Hazel and Brian Tingley, followed by her siblings Debra, Sabrina, and Henry (Jerry/Hank).She was raised in Burien with a strong tie to her community, church and large extended family. As a teenager Rhonda was passionate about her horse, Cole, and rode him anywhere and everywhere.

After graduating from Evergreen High School she went on to work and take some courses at a community college. This was the beginning of a lifelong love of knowledge and pursuing higher education.

In 1981 Rhonda met Steve Carter, seven years later they married, and a year later had their daughter Anya. Through health concerns, and the trials and tribulations of life Rhonda bulldozed head on into her passions, goals, and told her body to do it anyway. Rhonda lived a life full of joy, endurance, perseverance, and grace.

By 2014 Rhonda’s health was no longer able to be managed with at home care and fulltime care was established. In 2018 Rhonda got the joy of becoming a grandmother to a little girl, Sutton. Shewas the highlight of Rhonda’s life and kissed those toesies as often as she could. In 2019 Rhonda moved to Bailey-Boushay and the staff here became like family. Which was it’s own blessing when the world was shuttered with COVID.

At the end of 2022 Rhonda was facing declining health afflictions that were becoming harder and harder to manage. We were prepared to say our goodbyes the first week of 2023. Thankfully, we went on to have another 10 months with her. Some strong days, some not, but she never lost that drive to advocate for herself.

On November 23rd, 2023 Rhonda passed peacefully, listening to Christmas music and snoozing.
