Robert (Bob) Layton Price

Bob passed away peacefully at home in Seattle after a short battle with pancreatic cancer on May 13, 2023. Bob was born July 12, 1932, in Salem, Oregon, to Maude and Glenn Price.  Bob had an older sister, Neva, and a younger brother, Jim.  His family moved to Silverton, Oregon in 1938.  Bob enjoyed flying and got his pilot’s license in 1953. Bob moved to Seattle in 1960, where he worked as an air route traffic controller at the Seattle Air Route Traffic Control Center.  He then worked for the Boeing Commercial Airplane Division until 1970.  Bob was a long member of the Oregon and Washington National Guard before transferring to the US Army Reserve in 1966, where he finished his time to qualify for retirement when he reached 60 years old. After being laid off at the Boeing Co. in 1970, Bob went to work at the Department of Army as a civilian employee until he reached retirement age at 62. He worked with many West Coast Army groups, including a Huey medevac unit and a CH-47 Chinook heavy lift unit stationed at Paine Field. He retired from the Military and his civilian job in July 1992.  After retiring, Bob became a volunteer at the Museum of Flight in Seattle for 29 years, where he met pilot Chuck Yeager, astronaut Dr. Bonnie Dunbar and pilot Pancho Barnes. Bob had reached a long life and had slowed down a great deal in the past 3 years. Bob is survived by wife Patricia and stepdaughter Cheryl.
