Robert Maurer Steenrod (71) of SeaTac, WA, passed away on September 17, 2026, after facing pancreatic cancer with courage and grace for three years.

Bob was born in Seattle and grew up on Mercer Island. He graduated from Mercer Island High School in 1973, attended Western Washington University, and earned degrees in Microbiology and Enzymology from the University of Washington. After working in medical research for several years, he transitioned into the real estate, mortgage, and finance fields. He eventually became an owner of Professional Mortgage, Inc., which he led for many years. He later moved into data analytics, working for Clearwater Analytics and Starbucks until his retirement.

A lifelong learner, Bob loved science and technology, building things, and working outdoors—usually with a good cup of coffee in his hand. Family and friends regularly turned to him for advice on everything from finances and business to careers and life's challenges. He was an excellent listener who could take a complicated problem, think it through carefully, and somehow make it seem manageable. He also had a wonderfully dry sense of humor, an ample supply of dad jokes, and a talent for delivering the perfect one-liner at exactly the right moment.

Music was one of the great constants of Bob’s life. A gifted guitarist from an early age, he composed music, played in bands, and shared his talents with the churches he attended. His love of music was equal parts artistry, craftsmanship, and curiosity. He was always learning—whether building guitars, experimenting with new techniques, or chasing the perfect tone. Most importantly, he shared that passion with his children and grandchildren, passing along a love of music that continues in future generations.

At the center of Bob's life was his wife, Margaret (Maggie). They spent 50 years together, raising three sons and later welcoming eight grandchildren. Bob was a devoted Catholic who lived his faith quietly and consistently, through kindness, service, and love. At the heart of everything he did was devotion to God and to his family.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Florine M. Steenrod. He is survived by his wife, Maggie; his sons, Brian (Brittany), Bradley (Kayla), and Robert W. (Courtney); his grandchildren, Hannah, Sophia, Addison, Camden, Kellen, Abby, Stella, and Amadeus; his sisters, Margaret Morehouse and Patricia Hatley; his brother, Jay (Lynda); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Those who knew Bob will miss his kindness, generosity, and calm presence. Most of all, they will remember the deep love he had for his family and his faith.

Recitation of the rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. on October 8; his funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on October 9, 2026, both at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Burien. Burial will be at Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations in Bob’s memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, MercuryOne.org, or your favorite charity.
