Ronald Edward Ongstad

1946 — 2022

Ronald Edward Ongstad, born on Vashon Island July 27th, 1946, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2022, at his home in West Seattle surrounded by his family.

Ron had a dramatic entry into the world, he was born on the Vashon ferry dock.  His parents Margaret and Edward Ongstad instilled a love of the great outdoors. As a youth he had the run of the island and kept that zest for adventure his whole life.    He grew up with two beloved sisters; Rita Crystal and Elaine Rebuck.  Ron graduated from Chief Sealth High school and the University of Washington.   He proudly served his country in Vietnam.  Upon his return he met Diane Corrigan and their love story began.   Celebrating almost 53 years of marriage with countless escapades; camping, fishing, overseas travel and adventures.  Their love for each other was obvious to all, they were dedicated to each other and true best friends.   Family was a central part of Ron’s character.  He was a loving, attentive and inspirational father to Erik Ongstad and his wife Kathe as well as Colette Behrens and her husband Erich.  A very proud Grandpa to Avery, Ethan and Mallory Ongstad and Mianna, Emily and Nick Behrens.

Ron was commanding when he entered the room, not only his height and smile but his joyful nature and genuine love for family and friends. Ron had a clear moral compass that guided him in his personal and professional life.  His work ethic, strong character and sense of right and wrong helped him succeed professionally. His honesty, curiosity and determination garnered him great respect and success.   He had a long career at Universal Services, President of Telecom Network Specialists and developer for numerous real-estate projects.  He encouraged and supported Diane with her company ASAP, that is still run by their daughter.

Ron’s strong Norwegian character led him to find true joy near any body of water.  His happiest times were rowing, boating or off in the VW camper, exploring national parks and scenic “OH MY” spots.  His genuine warmth, kindness, sweetness and humor were always apparent and available. He was an avid reader, reluctant golfer, social pool player, forever fisherman and a dreamer.

He was ever happy with his cherished family and found peace at his home on Puget Sound. We will love you Always and Forever.

Ron’s life will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on Saturday, January 14th at 11:00 with a reception to follow at the parish hall.
