Shirley Marie (Leingang) Barton

Shirley, beloved wife of Murphy Robert (Bob) Barton (deceased), mother of Michael (Lynn Larkin), Sandra Barton Smith (Shaun), and Susan Roettjer (Steve), grandmother of 5 (Laura Twining & Jimmy, Christa Brown & Nick, Thomas (deceased), Michaela Monks & Weston, and Andrew Barton), great-grandmother of 3 (Noah, Ava & Grace Twining) died peacefully at Providence Mt. St. Vincent on May 9th surrounded by her children. After being raised in Spokane, WA by Nick and Amelia Leingang (along with sisters Dorothy, Kathy and little brother Bob) she spent 53 wonderful years married to her very own Bob - who she met in 4th grade. They settled in Seattle shortly thereafter, and Bob’s various job assignments took them to the DC area (Falls Church), Bellevue and eventually Des Moines, WA where they retired.  After Bob’s death in 2010, Shirley opted for an assisted living facility in West Seattle (Providence Mt. St. Vincent) from where she would never need to relocate.  We thank “The Mount” for their tireless efforts in support of our mom’s health and spiritual needs. Shirley will be remembered by all as a kind, caring human being, who did her utmost to make the world around her a better place.  One of her life long passions was guild work and fundraising for Children's Hospital. We are all touched by her spirit - and her infectious laughter.  Rest well Mom! FUNERAL: Mom’s funeral mass will be at Providence Mount St. Vincent’s (The Mount) on May 23rd at 9:30am in their church on the 3rd floor. This has been her loving community since 2011 so we are grateful that we can celebrate with her lovely faith community. Address: 4831-35th Avenue SW Seattle, WA 98126. ph: 206-937-3700.
