Mary G. Richards

1933 ~ 2023 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Obituary

Mary Richards passed away on April 26, 2023. Mary was born in Wolf Point, Montana on September 29, 1933. She lived a long and full life, sharing her loving, caring nature with family and friends. Mary lived most of her life in Seattle, WA where she raised three children, Michael, Catherine and Matthew, on her own. At the same time, she had a thriving 30-year career with  Pacific Northwest Bell and US West.

Mary frequently invited family members who needed a place to stay to share her home. She mentored others and made lifelong friends during her time with the phone company. Mary was an avid reader and writer, sharing books with anyone who was interested and sending cards and letters to others almost daily. She was an avid sports fan; the Mariners, Seahawks and Huskies have lost a tried and true fan.

In retirement, Mary shared a home with her daughter’s family for 35 years, acting as a third parent to grandchildren Kristin and Kyle. She volunteered with the Telephone Pioneers as well as in multiple classrooms across Seattle Schools, where Mary was known as Mama Berry by students who mixed up the name Grandma Mary.

Mary is survived by her children, Michael (Chris), Catherine (Ronald), and Matthew (Christie); her grandchildren Toby Richards, Jen Richards, Kristin Alfonzo and Kyle Thompson; her great grandchildren Dakotah, Logan, and Jordan; and her sisters Kay Fosso and Connie Godfrey. Mary will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
