Ralph Sydney Hastings passed away on August 6, 2020, a day after his 98th birthday. Ralph was born August 5, 1922 in Lisbon, North Dakota. His wife, Fern L. (Galbreath) Hastings, also born in Lisbon, preceded him in death in 2010. Ralph resided in Seattle, Washington since 1953.
Ralph had a long career in aviation, starting as an airplane mechanic and later promoted to B29 flight engineer in the United States Air Force. This expertise led him to become the U.S. Air Force plant representative for 29 years at the aerospace giant.
Everyone he worked with knew him to be a tough but fair representative of enormous integrity.
He loved his summers in the swimming pool, camping, and trailer traveling the West Coast with Fern.
He is survived by his sons, Peter, and David. He will be remembered as a wonderful father; creative, funny, and a terrific storyteller with a memory that never wavered to the very end. He will be missed.
Of his many charities, The Seattle Humane Society was his number one concern.
